A Trenton police officer is recovering after being shot in the leg Saturday night during an incident on Lincoln Avenue, near North Clinton Avenue and Seward Avenue, authorities confirmed. The shooting prompted a large police response, with multiple blocks of Lincoln Avenue taped off as detectives and officers worked late into the night to secure the area and gather evidence. According to police, the wounded officer was transported to Capital Health Regional Medical Center, where he is reported to be in stable condition. Trenton Police Director Steve Wilson was observed on scene speaking with police brass and investigators as the area was flooded with emergency vehicles and crime scene tape. Evidence markers were scattered across the roadway as officers canvassed the neighborhood for witnesses and surveillance footage. The New Jersey State Police has been called in to investigate the shooting, as is standard protocol in cases involving law enforcement officers. Details about the circumstances that led to the gunfire have not yet been released. Residents reported hearing a heavy police presence shortly after the shooting occurred, with several patrol cars and command units responding from multiple divisions. This remains a developing story, and updates will be provided as additional information becomes available.
