The 2014 Osteopathic Surgical Educators Seminar addresses the ACGME requirements and the path to ACGME accreditation to assist osteopathic training programs in preparing for this transition. The seminar provides an overview of ACGME accreditation (past, present, and future) and the ACGME move to competency-based indicators of resident progress. It examines components of the ACGME’s Next (new) Accreditation System (NAS): “Milestones” (the competency-based developmental outcomes demonstrated by residents and fellows throughout their education); and the Clinical Learning Environment Review (CLER). This session also compares ACGME standards to existing ACOS accrediting standards for resident training in surgery and the surgical sub-specialties, and examines steps in the transition of osteopathic training programs from AOA accreditation to ACGME accreditation. Presented by: Catherine Eckart, MBA, and Frederick M. Schiavone, M.D., FACEP
