Anomalous origin of right pulmonary artery from ascending aorta / hemitruncus or isolation of RPA are various names used to describe this rare entity. It is a type of congenital heart defect. Main pulmonary artery pulmonary artery arises from right ventricle and continues as left pulmonary artery. Left pulmonary artery arises from ascending aorta. There is no communication between left and main pulmonary artery as well as aorta and main pulmonary artery. There are 2 patent semilunar valves aortic and pulmonary. Right and left lung have different blood supply. Though left lung blood supply is from normotensive right ventricle, it also develops pulmonary hypertensive changes as seen in right lung though factor not yet specified. Diagnosis of this condition is tricky and there are a few reports of missed or delayed diagnosis. This video describes echocardiographic features or clues to diagnose this very rare anomaly. Close differential for this entity include truncus arteriosus.
