Come and learn with us about the devil in the details. Cris&John Episode 5: Frank Russo (RyersonU, Toronto) Title: At the intersection of music, mind and technology. People around the world use music for more than entertainment. One common usage is selecting tracks in a functional manner to regulate one's mood (e.g., to induce calm). However, listener's are not uniformly capable of generating insight about what music will be most effective for them in a given context. By combining methods drawn from music psychology, music therapy, music informatics, artificial intelligence and neuroscience we have the potential to use music functionally. In addition to talking about some approaches to this problem, I’m looking forward to discussing related talking points at the edges of this problem. Bio Frank Russo is the NSERC-Sonova Senior Industrial Research Chair and a Professor of Psychology at Ryerson University in Toronto, Canada. He is also the Chief Science Officer for LUCID, a digital therapeutics company using advances in AI technology and neuroscience to unlock the full potential of music as medicine. Some of Frank’s other roles include Co-Founder of CogMIR; Co-Director of SingWell, Fellow of Canadian Psychological Association; Senior Fellow of Massey College; and Associate Editor at Frontiers in Emotion Science and at Music Perception.
