In this video interview, social media expert Krista Neher offers some tips for small business fan pages on Facebook, where businesses want to get in front of 800 million Facebook users. One of the chief problems businesses have is not to begin with clearly stated objectives. Often they hope Facebook will bring them new customers, but a more realistic objective is to move existing customers from being satisfied with your business to loving your business, to drive loyalty, says Neher. But small business still need an effective website, since a Facebook page gives you only low levels of control of how information is displayed. For example, the default page is your "wall," not the typical information that new customers need first. A website, on the other hand displays basic information that you want to get before people, ranks better in the search engines, and gives sites like Yelp a place to link to -- though Facebook pages can rank well also.
