The rebellion was led by figures like: • Theodoros Kolokotronis (military leader) • Alexandros Ypsilantis (leader of Filiki Eteria, a secret society that planned the revolution) • Laskarina Bouboulina (naval commander) • Athanasios Diakos and Markos Botsaris (freedom fighters) War of Independence (1821–1830) • The revolution started in Peloponnese, Central Greece, and Macedonia. • Key victories included the Siege of Tripolitsa (1821) and the Battle of Navarino (1827), where British, French, and Russian forces aided Greece. • The war ended with the London Protocol of 1830, recognizing Greece as an independent nation. Greek Independence Day is marked by: • Military parades in Athens and other cities. • School parades where students wear traditional Greek clothing. • Religious services celebrating the Annunciation. • Patriotic speeches and events honoring the revolution.
