Northern Deer Goddess - Female Shamans Reindeer Leadership Rebirth Resilience Santa’s Origin

She is associated with reindeer, fertility, motherhood, regeneration and the rebirth of the sun after the Winter Solstice. That’s because male reindeer shed their antlers in late autumn, but female reindeer keep them through the winter so they can protect themselves and their territory, and feed so they can survive to give birth in the spring. Which means Rudolph is actually Rhonda (or some other “R” female name) and may be pregnant! The Deer Mother goddess was revered in the Siberian, Nordic and pre-Celtic lands as ancestor figure, and a guide through life's challenges, embodying resilience and wisdom. She symbolizes fertility, rebirth, and the cycle of life. And it’s believed that the indigenous female shamans traveled with them as they carried the sun in the antlers on the Winter Solstice to bring light back to the world. And how did those female reindeer and shamans fly? They ingested an hallucinogenic Amanita Muscaria mushroom, the archetypal red toadstool with white spots. (Note the modern day Christmas colors) Other folktales tell how shamans, dressed in red suits with white spots, would collect the mushrooms and then deliver them through chimneys as gifts on the winter solstice. Sound familiar? Furthermore, these red and white costumes were trimmed with fur, horned headdresses or felt red hats… some with a red peaked hat, curled-toed boots, reindeer mittens, fur lining, and trim.
