Spherical mirrors: Concave and convex | Class 10 Physics | Easy Concept Explanation

The reflecting surface of a spherical mirror may be curved inwards or outwards. Concave Mirror: A spherical mirror whose reflecting surface is curved inwards (faces towards the centre of the sphere). It is a converging mirror: It converges the light that falls on it, hence named as a converging mirror. Depending on the object's distance, it produces both real/inverted and virtual/magnified images. Examples: shaving mirrors, telescopes, headlights, and solar furnaces. Convex Mirror: A spherical mirror whose reflecting surface is curved outwards. It is known as a diverging mirror since it diverges the light that falls on it. Image formatted by a convex mirror are always diminished, virtual, erect, regardless of the distance between the mirror and the object. Examples, rear view mirror, traffic safety mirrors, street light reflector.
