THE RENAISSANCE OPERATING SYSTEM 10: Books to Rebuild Your Mind

Most people read to collect facts. The Renaissance masters read and thought to build a world. This is a 10-book curriculum designed not to teach you history, but to install the Renaissance "Operating System" into your own mind, by spending time in the company of some of the most influential minds in the Renaissance. We live in an age of hyper-specialization and fragmented attention. We know how things work, but we have lost the ability to see how they connect. The Renaissance mind—the mind of Da Vinci, Alberti, and Petrarch—was different. It didn't see a border between art, science, power, and the soul. This video is specifically designed as a way for you and me to investigate the mindset that held sway during the renaissance, by spending time in the company of some of it's greatest thinkers. Of course, each individual had differrent experiences and preferences. However, time periods tend to share dominant assumptions or perspectives on 'how things are'. It is my belief that the output of these assumptions is the proof of their excellence. And, since the Renaissance was perhaps the most prodigious era of discovery, rediscovery, and understanding of the foundations of the world, it must have been onto something. The Renaissance wasn't an accident; it was the inevitable output of a superior set of assumptions. If we want Renaissance-level results, you need the Renaissance-level perspective. So what were the dominant assumptions? In this video I will share with you 10 works written during the Renaissance. These are not the 'best' or 'most important' works. Instead they are excellent works which reveal a way of thinking and approaching ourselves, the world, and reason. By engaging with these 10 texts, we aren't focused on the specific topic, per se. We are interested in listening to these renaissance minds talking. If we individually take the time to listen to these minds trying to understand and explain the world, we will start becoming familiar with their perspective, their min-set, their operating system. We are identifying the cognitive scaffolding that allowed these individuals to out-think their predecessors and out-imagine their future. This is not a cheat list. It will not say - "This is the mind-set of Petrarch;" "this is how Mirandola used logic;" "this is Da Vinci's favourite logic". As you choose to read these books, ask yourself, what does this tell me about how they viewed the world and themselves, the human mind, it's capabilities? Can you find shared beliefs - not explicitly stated - but inherent in tall of them? As you do, you will be quite literally reprogramming your mind. Fundamentally, we need to step away from being handed 'what' to think, and start understanding 'how' to think by doing the hard work of thinking. 10 BOOK CURRICULUM 0:00 — The Renaissance "Operating System" Explained 2:15 — Book 1: Petrarch & The Foundational Spark 5:10 — Book 2: Pico della Mirandola & Human Potential 8:06 — Book 3: Lorenzo Valla & The Power of Language 10:59 — Book 4: Erasmus & The Art of Critical Thinking 14:30 — Book 5: Alberti & Building Your Character 17:21 — Book 6: Vasari & Inside the Minds of Masters 20:59 —Book 7: Machiavelli’s Strategy & Realism 23:57 — Book 8: Da Vinci & The Mastery of Observation 27:54 — Book 9: Francis Bacon & Upgrading Your Logic 32:11— Book 10: Montaigne & Mastering the Self Support This Channel: If you found this valuable and want more content on learning, philosophy, and self-improvement: PATREON -   / u84761803:   BUY ME A COFFEE - https://buymeacoffee.com/tristanclassics If we can begin to think like a Renaissance master, we can cut through the noise and discord of 21st-century problems with a clarity that the world has lost in the main. In fact, as you willl hear, that was the specific aim of one of the writers on this list.
