Here I've got Graeme's very nice Fender made in Mexico Player Telecaster in glorious "Tidepool", a metallic blue-green that reminds you of er... long days on the beach looking in rock pools for anemones... or something. But it's a nice colour, despite its name :) This came for a good, all-round set up: lowering of the action at both ends, some flattening out of the neck and a Tusq nut and string tree to eliminate just about all friction so - along with thorough string stretching - the guitar will stay in tune much better. In this video I talk about the way that Fender (and other manufacturers) spray their gloss fingerboards OVER the frets and why I'm not a fan of that, plus go into some detail about scale lengths and why you should TRUST the pattern: two groups of three staggered saddles for correct intonation. I make the point that if your intonation deviates from that it's almost certainly because you've got a dud string (or set of strings) - and rather than struggle to intonate (as you often can, despite it being out of sequence) - I recommend you throw the string away that doesn't intonate and get a new one.
