Reklam In this video, you’re watching the pre-spawning courtship dance of my wild Betta Imbellis pair. The male is actively displaying his colors, movements, and behavior in an attempt to impress the female. This is the very first stage before breeding begins. No spawning happens in this video only the natural courtship behavior and interaction between the pair. Male Betta fish are highly aggressive, and in most cases, males and females cannot live together in the same aquarium (with a few species as exceptions). Even before mating, the male can be very dominant and pushy. To help reduce aggression and allow the male and female to get used to each other, the fish are positioned so they can see one another but cannot make physical contact. This process is usually done for about one hour per day over several days. After this conditioning period, the fish are introduced to each other. Once breeding is completed, the male and female are separated again. In this video, you see the female inside a glass container. Normally, the female Betta has her own separate aquarium and does not live inside the glass. In the upcoming videos, I’ll be documenting the full breeding process, including spawning, egg care, and the following stages step by step. If you enjoy observing natural fish behavior and wild Betta species, stay tuned for the next parts of this series.
