Es war ein gigantisches Megapojekt ohne gleichen, grandios und größenwahnsinnig zugleich, der Vision eines portugiesischen Geschäftsmannes entsprungen. Der erste ganzjährig betriebene Wasserpark auf der Iberischen Halbinsel – mit Wellenbecken, Rutschen, Spa-Bereich, Fitnessstudio, Bowling, Disco, Restaurants und Hotels. Investitionsvolumen: 25 Millionen Euro. Im Jahr 2008 war das Projekt der Öffentlichkeit vorgestellt worden und dank der bereits erwähnten Investitionen in Höhe von mehreren Millionen schritten die Arbeiten sogar zügig voran – die Eröffnung des Wasserparks war für das Jahr 2015 geplant. Doch das Projekt war zu ehrgeizig, die Ziele zu hoch gesteckt und deshalb verlor es im Laufe der Zeit die Unterstützung des Staates und die der portugiesischen Banken. Die Fortführung der Bauarbeiten mit Hilfe privater Investoren scheiterte ebenfalls und so erleben wir den Park heute in einem Zustand des Stillstands. Heute ist der Wasserpark all das was er NICHT sein wollte: das Ergebnis einer unvollendeten Arbeit, die KEINEN Spaß bringt – außer für Freizeitarchäologen, die sich auch durch nackten Beton und bunten Kunststoff begeistern lassen ... It was a gigantic mega project without equal, grandiose and megalomaniac at the same time, the vision of a Portuguese businessman. The first year-round water park on the Iberian Peninsula - with wave pools, slides, spa area, gym, bowling, disco, restaurants and hotels. Investment volume: 25 million euros. The project was presented to the public in 2008, and thanks to the already mentioned multi-million investments, the works progressed rapidly - the opening of the water park was planned for 2015. However, the project was too ambitious, the goals set too high, and as a result, over time, it lost the support of the state and the Portuguese banks. The continuation of the construction work with the help of private investors also failed and so we see the park today in a state of standstill.
