So who remembers Video Maths? I have to confess it doesn't really ring a bell with me, but apparently it was a Central production aimed at KS2 students, and the series was accompanied by its own software package, which is seen used in this episode (love the ancient computer, love the ancient printer next to it with the perforated roll of paper). Maybe the animated chip Hi-Tech - HT for short - will bring back some memories for you. Anyway, in this particular one, Fred Harris (a.k.a. Chockabloke) talks us through star shapes, how to construct them, where to spot them in nature, and their symbolic significance across various cultures. Truth be told, though, educational as the programme is, it's not really quite as mathematical as I was hoping. On the other hand, I like the aesthetic of the opening titles and background music, and one thing that does ring a bell is that we did some of that creating patterns by joining the dots on a circle when I was at school. Unfortunately, I'm afraid this is the only episode I have of the show. Hopefully more will show up one day. Grateful thanks to Ben for providing this recording - please take the time to check out / benriggers when you get the chance.
