Mid of flag 6. SOUNDBITE: (English) Peter Kreko, Political Analyst, Political Capital Hungary: "Gordon Bajnai is a former businessman, he comes from the business elite, he's a non-partisan technocrat, and his main advantage as a politician is that he can get in good connection with the business elite and he understands well their interests. In this situation where very harsh austerity measures are necessary to save the economy I think it's important that the new prime minister is a man who really understands the world of the business elite." 7. Various of security, people outside parliament 8. SOUNDBITE: (English) Peter Kreko, Political Analyst, Political Capital Hungary: "Once the austerity measures are in place there will be a lot of social protests, for example the trade unions can have protests against these measures, because they are very unpopular measures and we can say that all of the groups in the society have some disadvantage because of this austerity measure programme." 9. Police vans, shift focus to woman walking down street STORYLINE: Security was tight on Tuesday in Budapest as police anticipated hundreds of protesters ahead of the replacement of current prime minister, Ferenc Gyurcsany, in a constructive vote of no-confidence in parliament. The new prime minister will be Gordon Bajnai, a non-partisan technocrat who promises austerity measures and economic reforms that would "hurt" and demand sacrifices from every Hungarian. The conservative opposition is still calling for early parliamentary elections, set originally for 2010, because they say the new PM and his cabinet are not legitimate. Protesters started gathering around mid-morning in Hungary's capital in front of the parliament building. The Hungarian Guard, a far-right movement, was also present. Gyurcsany announced his resignation on March 21 without naming a successor. Since then, several candidates have withdrawn or been unable to get the political backing needed to form a government. The Socialists' minority government needs support from independent or opposition lawmakers to elect Bajnai in parliament on Tuesday and to avoid early elections, next scheduled for April or May 2010. Analyst Peter Kreko thinks former businessman Bajnai will have leverage with the business elite in the country but his austerity measures will not be popular with any of Hungary's social groups. Hungary is one of the countries most affected in Eastern Europe by the global financial crisis. Its currency, the Forint, has weakened dramatically over the past months, and in late 2008 the government had to secure a loan of 25.1 billion (b) US dollars from the International Monetary Fund and other creditors to cover its financing needs. The Central Statistical Office said last month that Hungary's unemployment rate rose to 9.1 percent in December-February, 1.1 percentage points higher than in the same period a year ago.
