This final Sunday after the Epiphany brings us to the mountaintop, where God’s glory is revealed and the path toward Lent begins. Exodus 24:12–18 shows Moses entering the cloud of God’s presence, where divine glory rests like consuming fire. Psalm 99 proclaims the holiness of God, who reigns with justice and calls the people to worship. 2 Peter 1:16–21 reminds us that the apostles witnessed Christ’s majesty with their own eyes and that Scripture shines as a lamp in dark places. Matthew 17:1–9 tells of Jesus’ Transfiguration—His face shining like the sun—revealing who He truly is before the journey to the cross. Together, these readings draw us into a moment of radiant revelation, preparing our hearts for the quieter, humbler road of Lent. THE COLLECT O God, who before the passion of your only begotten Son revealed his glory upon the holy mountain: Grant to us that we, beholding by faith the light of his countenance, may be strengthened to bear our cross, and be changed into his likeness from glory to glory; through Jesus Christ our Lord, who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, one God, for ever and ever. Amen.
