On Bhadra 22, 2082 (Sept 7, 2025), groups of young people gathered at the District Administration Office in Kathmandu to seek official permission for what would soon become the historic Gen Z Protest. The following day, Bhadra 23 (Sept 8), more delegations returned demanding proper security and peaceful arrangements for the demonstration. What began as a simple request for permission quickly grew into one of the most significant youth-led movements in Nepal’s recent history. Sparked by the government’s Sept 4 decision to ban 26 major digital platforms including Facebook and YouTube, thousands of young people assembled at Maitighar, driven not only by anger over the social media ban but also by unemployment, corruption, economic inequality, and decades of unstable leadership. In this episode of In-Depth Story, we explain how the Gen Z Protest of 2082 was organized, why thousands of youths joined spontaneously, and how the movement reshaped Nepal’s political landscape by challenging long-standing power structures and pushing the country toward new leadership. This video explores the full story behind the Gen Z Andolan, the demands for accountability and good governance, and how a generation’s collective voice influenced the future direction of Nepal’s politics.
