(14 Feb 1996) Serbo-Croat/English NATO officials have warned that the Bosnia peace agreement is in danger of stalling unless Serb leaders restore contacts with the NATO-led peace force in Bosnia. At a press conference, N-A-T-O spokesman Lieutenant-Colonel Mark Rayner conceded that no high-level contacts had been made with the Serbs for almost a week. On the streets of the Serb stronghold of Pale, people have been voicing their anger at the arrest of two Serb officers suspected of war crimes. This unilateral boycott of communications by the V-R-S constitutes a serious violation of the Dayton peace agreement and IFOR is concerned that the situation does not worsen. SUPER CAPTION: N-A-T-O spokesman Lt-Col Mark Rayner Rayner said he was unable to specify how long the boycott could continue without inflicting irreparable damage on the peace process. He said that while I-F-O-R soldiers could continue to fulfill some basic tasks of the agreement, such as monitoring the four kilometer-wide demilitarized buffer zones, it would be difficult for the peace process to advance without the restoration of contacts with the Serbs.
