In 1944, the Santa Fe was reaching maximum capacity due to wartime traffic. While the railroads current designs were managing fine, the road needed additional power to keep the tonnage rolling. As a response, the War Production Board sent 10 4-6-6-4 Challenger types, diverted from the Union Pacific's final order in the spring of that year. The Santa Fe, not wanting to use the name 'Challenger' to describe their class as the name had come from the Union Pacific, a competitor to the ATSF. The railroad instead settled on the name 'Cajon' named after the famous Cajon Pass, the eventual stomping grounds of these beasts. Although these locomotives never existed in real life, one can only speculate as to what Santa Fe would've thought of a "good" articulated on their roster. Lets take a dive into the realm of fiction once again as we follow a pair of Santa Fe "Cajons" storming up the west side of Cajon Pass in the summer of 1945. lets ride along with the 6000 series, the mighty Cajons! This model was kitbashed using parts from ANL's UP Challenger and Trainman7616's ATSF 2900. The materials have been updated to look better in TRS19. Not sure if this will see release but its possible.
