Louisville & Nashville 1593: Old Reliable in the Tennessee Valley

In late September 2019, Southern 4501 went undercover as Louisville & Nashville j3 class 1593 as part of the 2019 L&N Historical Society convention. The locomotive received a large L&N sunbeam headlight, an authentic L&N whistle, and some new lettering. While not a perfect imitation, the spirit of the "Old Reliable" seemed to come alive again as the train made its way down to Chickamauga, Georgia. The day after the convention, 1593 was placed on the Local to give the public a rare chance to ride behind L&N steam. Although the engine was supposed to be returned to it's true identity after the weekend, due to popular demand 1593 will stick around at least one more week for a trip to Summerville.
