Researchers evaluated long-term survival rates and outcomes from 493 patients who underwent 555 operations for chronic pancreatitis at the University of Cincinnati Medical Center between 2000 and 2020. They found a high (95.5%) 1-year survival rate among patients but a much lower (63.5%) 10-year survival rate. Pancreatitis caused by alcohol use and/or smoking, along with persistent smoking and opioid use after surgery, was associated with worse outcomes, pointing to a need for closer monitoring after surgery.
