GOOD DAY! Santa Cruz County Board of Supervisors voted YES, to move to the next stage of updating our local ordinance to allow for ONSITE CONSUMPTION & ONSITE RETAIL at licensed cannabis farms!!!! Not to get too technical, but this has not been fully approved, the Board of Supervisors only voted YES to now allow our Cannabis Licensing Manager to draft new Ordinance language... but this is an important necessary step towards this becoming law. Bittersweet, due to some dispensary concerns, the Board did recommend limiting the amount of product a visitor can purchase... but this is not set in stone. We understand it is tough times for the cannabis industry, but we feel that our customers would be mainly out of town tourists, so our farm would not be cutting into local dispensary sales - & we would also be promoting more tourists to visit our local dispensaries who will soon be allowed to have consumption lounges... so there is still a mindset to try to control & limit the farmers.... but perhaps we can find some solutions where everyone wins... to be continued. BUT - this is a huge step towards EMPOWERING & CELEBRATING cannabis farmers! Unfortunately, the cannabis industry was designed to create middlemen & retailers who can easily lowball & exploit the farmers - the California cannabis regulations were designed to alienate farmers from customers by installing unnecessary middlemen, which has caused many small farmers to go out of business... but when farmers are able to host tourists, create a farm experience, & sell their products directly to their customers - this celebrates small decentralized craft cannabis farming, & protects farmers from the destructive forces of corporate consolidation. So today in Santa Cruz, we took a major step towards celebrating & empowering small craft cannabis farmers instead of exploiting & alienating farmers from their customers. We would like to see other counties do this too. We need to celebrate & empower decentralized small craft farmers instead of rewarding corporate consolidation & industrial race to the bottom agriculture.... Not law yet, still work to do - but good day! Thanks everyone who wrote letters!
