He is highly regarded for his contributions to acid techno, particularly his innovative use of the Roland TB-303, a skill that earned him the moniker "The Jimi Hendrix of the 303." Dred began his career as a DJ in 1983 and a producer in 1988, quickly becoming a key figure in the UK's experimental techno scene. His extensive discography includes releases on labels such as Rephlex Records (where he was the first artist other than Richard D. James to release a project), R&S Records, and his own Machine Codes label, which he established in 1990. Beyond his solo work as The Kosmik Kommando, he is also known for his collaborations, notably with electro-acoustic artist Peter Green, and for his involvement in the highly collectible Universal Indicator series with Aphex Twin. Rephlex was an independent label founded in 1991 by Richard D. James and Grant Wilson-Claridge. It started in Cornwall and later moved to London. Rephlex closed in 2014.
