Celebrating 100 years of the Otira Tunnel ~ Train Simulator

Since I couldn't get down to the South Island to visit the Otira Tunnel in real life, I decided to do a special excursion in Train Simulator to celebrate the tunnel's centenary. We'll see a pair of NZR 'DJ' class diesel locomotives bringing the train up to Arthur's Pass, then a trio of 'EO' class electric locomotives will take over and haul the train down to the village of Otira and back, tackling the steep 1 in 33 grade in the process. The 'Midland Line' route in Train Simulator is set in 1968, back when the Otira to Arthur's Pass section was still electrified. These days, KiwiRail's DXC class diesel locomotives handle most services between Christchurch and Greymouth (banking duties included), and the line is still used by freight trains as well as the famous Tranz Alpine tourist train.
