Historic windmills and distinctive green wooden houses were relocated here to recreate the look of an 18th/19th-century village. The Zaans Museum has regional costumes, model windmills and interactive chocolate-making exhibits. Artisan workshops demonstrate rare handicrafts such as wooden clog carving, barrel making and pewter casting. Zaanse Schans is a popular tourist attraction and an anchor point of the European Route of Industrial Heritage (ERIH). The neighbourhood attracted approximately 1.6 million visitors in 2014. It is served by Zaandijk Zaanse Schans railway station, 18 minutes from Amsterdam Centraal station.[3] The Zaanse Schans houses seven museums — the Weavers House, the Cooperage, the Jisper House, the Zaan Time Museum, the Albert Heijn Museum Shop and the Bakery Museum.
