Thank you for watching! Every year, on the third Friday in September, the United States observes National POW/MIA Recognition Day in honor of those who were prisoners of war and those who served and never returned home. While the POW/MIA Flag is often part of the remembrance, it actually flies all year long. The flag was designed in the 1970's by a man named Newt Heisley. While it was originally adopted mostly as a symbol of the Vietnam War, it soon came to represent American POW/MIA from all wars. In 2019, Senators Elizabeth Warren and Tom Cotton introduced the National POW/MIA Flag Act, which was later signed into law by President Donald Trump.
