Governor Roy Cooper named CEO Sharon Bryson as the state’s newest inductee into the Order of the Long Leaf Pine. North Carolina Secretary of Revenue Ronald Penny presented the award to Sharon during her retirement celebration at The Carolina Inn on Thursday, January 25. In a recorded message, Governor Cooper praised Bryson for her contributions to the accounting profession and the state during her nearly 40-year tenure with NCACPA. “Your unwavering dedication to fair, honest, and ethical work helps set an example for CPAs everywhere,” said Cooper. “I’m so grateful for your public service, and I’m grateful for your family’s legacy of public service that you’ve epitomized.” Since 1963, North Carolina’s Governors have reserved their highest honor, The Order of the Long Leaf Pine Award, for persons who have made significant contributions to the state and their communities through their exemplary service and exceptional accomplishments. As previously announced, Sharon is set to retire from NCACPA on January 31 after serving for nearly four decades, including roles in communications, professional development, and as Chief Operating Officer before being named CEO in 2016.
