Police quickly concluded that it was a suicide, based on her husband Dustin Parra’s gun and a piece of paper believed to be a suicide note. But Megan’s family did not accept this conclusion. They believed their daughter had been murdered. Through hundreds of crime scene photos, independent forensic evidence and suspicious blood stains, they gradually uncovered the truth. After 7 years of perseverance, in 2021, Dustin Parra was indicted and finally pleaded guilty to manslaughter in 2023 – with a sentence of only 5 years in prison.
