MTA chair explains why two of NYC's subway lines are switching

The MTA is rolling out a major weekday route change for the F and M lines between Queens and Manhattan, with the goal of improving reliability and reducing delays. The new pattern, in effect from 6 a.m. to 9:30 p.m., sends the M train to Queensbridge–21st Street, Roosevelt Island and 63rd Street–Lexington Avenue. The F will now serve Queens Plaza, Court Square and 53rd Street. The shift is designed to cut down on delays caused when the lines cross paths.
