Is Giving Your Car Carbon-Ceramic Brakes Worth It? Are you taking your car to the track? If yes, then yes. If not, save your money. Carbon-ceramic brakes are usually made of silicon carbide and carbon fibers. They can come as an option in high performance vehicles, and can sometimes cost over $25,000 (like on a McLaren). Sure, they’re quieter than organic or metallic pads and produce less dust, which is nice. They also last significantly longer with non-hardcore use. They weigh less. They can tolerate a greater range of temperatures. They fade less as they heat up. Well all that sounds awesome, so what’s the problem? Ceramic brakes are also not as effective at low temperatures.
