Can You Resurface Subaru Heads With Sandpaper?

People online constantly debate two things when it comes to Subaru engines: 1️⃣ Running cylinder heads that have cracks around the spark plug holes 2️⃣ Resurfacing heads by hand using the sandpaper and tile method So we decided to run an experiment. We’re rebuilding an engine for one of our shop vehicles and thought it would be the perfect opportunity to test both at the same time. First we check the cylinder heads for warp using a straightedge and feeler gauge. Then we attempt to resurface them by hand using the tile and sandpaper method to see if it actually works. After about 20–30 minutes of sanding, the results are already interesting. ⚠️ For customer vehicles we always have both cylinder heads professionally resurfaced and inspected by a professional machine shop to ensure proper flatness and MLS gasket surface finish.
