Biophotonics session — Photonics Online Meetup Jan 2021

Biophotonics plays a foundational role in solving global health challenges, from understanding fundamental biological processes to accelerating disease diagnosis. This session will focus on recent advances in optical biosensing technologies for a range of applications. Topics of interest include, but are not limited to, integrated biosensors, fiber biosensors, smartphone-based biosensors, wearable biosensors, surface functionalization strategies in biosensors, microfluidics integration with biosensors, and applications of machine learning in biosensors. The biophotonics session was chaired by Prof. Sean Rodrigues from the Lahore University of Management Sciences in Pakistan, and featured invited speaker Dr. Maria Soler from the Catalan Institute of Nanoscience and Nanotechnology in Spain. Day 2 of the Photonics Online Meetup 2021 January Meeting #POM21ja took place on January 14, 2021. POM is an entirely free virtual conference geared towards bringing together an international community of early career and established researchers from universities, industry, and government in all sub-fields of optics and photonics.
