Here is a quick demonstration of how I prepare liquid culture broth to expand mycelium using the Instant pot to sterilize the contents. You can inoculate the liquid broth jars with already colonized liquid culture to expand it out further, or you can use agar to do the same. It is said that if you use more than 10% sugar content in the liquid broth, that it will toxic to the mycelium, I can not confirm if this is true, but I always shoot for around 4-5%. Also it is said if you overcook the broth that the sugars will caramelize and the mycelium will not thrive, but I have not run across this issue in my adventures. There are hundreds of recipes you can use for liquid culture broth, here are some good ones for beginners. I prefer Malt/Dextrose broth. Honey broth – 500ml recipe -500ml filtered water/non-chlorinated -20 grams Honey Honey broth Honey broth - *100ml recipe * 100ml filtered water/non-chlorinated -4 grams Honey Malt extract broth– 500ml recipe -500ml filtered water/non-chlorinated -20 grams light malt extract Malt extract broth - 100ml recipe -100ml filtered water/non-chlorinated -4 grams light malt extract Malt extract dextrose broth 500ml recipe -500ml filtered water/non-chlorinated -15 grams Dextrose -5 grams light malt extract Malt extract dextrose Malt extract dextrose broth - 100ml recipe -100ml filtered water/non-chlorinated -3 grams Dextrose -1 gram light malt extract
