A short compilation of this morning's vivid and lively lightning show just before sunrise (3:30am), as seen from north-west Norwich. The main storm core was located to the east of the city, but still provided a nice show. Included at the end is a sound recording taken from a second smaller storm (with lightning just missed off camera) of a positive CG (cloud-to-ground bolt), which exited the cloud directly above, and landing on the ground around 10 miles to the south. A positive CG originates from the positively charged anvil top of the thunderstorm cloud, and carries around 10 times the voltage and power of the more common negatively charged lightning bolts (which originate from the cloud base), which in turn causes the loud sonic boom like thunder as demonstrated here.
