A closer look at police motorcycle training, specifically how the system behind it, including the ROADRAFT MANUAL and IPSGA, has heavily influenced civilian advanced rider programs like IAM and ROSPA. While these foundations were built for highly trained police riders, they’re not "always" a perfect fit for everyday motorcyclists and could put you in serious DANGER. WHY THE POLICE, IAM, AND ROSPA MOTORCYCLE BIBLE, ROADCRAFT MIGHT BE HOLDING YOU BACK TO BE CLEAR, this is NOT a hit piece. It’s a different perspective based on solid research and my own experience earning a First with IAM and RoSPA. I respect and use the system. Transferring this model directly to civilians can lead to confusion, or worse, UNSAFE RIDING HABITS AND POOR TEACHING. Too often, civilian riders are encouraged to perform RISKY MANOEUVRES just to tick boxes for certification, not because it improves real-world safety. Now that’s a concern. Let me be clear: ROADCRAFT ( Buy it here: https://amzn.to/4jtN9me) is a brilliant foundation, although I must say, it's a very boring read. It’s not a universal solution, and the one-size-fits-all approach doesn't always serve the wider riding motorcycling community. Some other things to consider are: The DVSA DOESN’T OFFICIALLY RECOGNISE ROADCRAFT OR IPSGA Certification alone doesn’t guarantee better riding. Advanced training should evolve with riders’ needs, not just uphold outdated tradition. This video is NOT about scrapping Roadcraft. It’s about encouraging motorcycle riders to think critically, pick out what works, and ride safely within their own comfort zone, no matter what anyone else might tell you. The safest rider you can be is when you feel safe and comfortable. If you haven’t read Roadcraft, it’s still a great resource. Take what helps you and skip what doesn’t. It's is not a legal document and in fact, some things in it are probably illegal for servilian motorcyclists.
