Does your lathe lack a scale on the x axis? Are you frustrated by having to reposition a dial indicator several times to measure large distances? Worry no more, for trav-a-dial is here. It functions via a disk pressed against the side of the lathe, spinning the dial through FANCY GEARS Also it's a PITA to calibrate. Rough heuristics used during calibration: Repeatability: 1. Move saddle right to a consistent location 2. Move saddle left to a consistent location 3. Return saddle to the right 4. Record the position of the dial 4. If the needle is to the right of 0 tilt it left 5. If the needle is to the left of 0 tilt it right 6. Repeat, many times Absolute: 1. Zero an indicator on the saddle 2. Move the saddle exactly an inch (1.000") 3. If the needle is to the left of 0 tilt it forward 4. If the needle is to the right of 0 tilt it back Note: my lefts and rights might be backwards.
