This will be a very interesting month of performances, with major shows at the Kabuki-za, National Theatre, Heisei Nakamura-za, Misono-za and Shochiku-za. It is great to see kabuki back in full health, with the yearly festivals revived and the Nakamuraya back in Asakusa... It seems that the young actor's show at the Asakusa Kōkaidō will also take place in January as well. A detail that I left out of the video: this will be the first regular performance of the Kitsunebi scene in 14 years! Let's all hope for the future health of this scene as well. Kotarō VI learned it this year for a special gala, so it is a matter of time that he performs it at the Kabuki-za. Jakuemon V still performs the Kodanji kata for this scene, which hasn't been seen since Sakata Tōjūrō IV staged it in December 2005 at the Minami-za.
