As part of the Strengthening WASH Systems for Health project, WASHNet Sierra Leone convened a capacity-strengthening workshop for local authorities focused on Domestic Resource Mobilization, planning, and financing for decentralized WASH services. The session brought together council officials and sector actors to examine practical ways local governments can mobilize, allocate, and manage their own resources to deliver sustainable WASH services. The video highlights key discussions on linking planning to financing, strengthening local accountability, and positioning WASH as a public health priority within council budgets. It also reflects on why long-term WASH outcomes depend not only on infrastructure, but on strong local systems that can plan, fund, and maintain services over time. This conversation is part of a broader effort to support local authorities to move from reliance on external funding toward resilient, locally financed WASH systems that work for everyone. If you work in local governance, public health, WASH, or development practice, this video offers practical insights into what it takes to make decentralized WASH service delivery more effective.
