I am pretty sure you might have been asked a number of times for an option in the backup configuration where you can complete a certain task just before or after a backup is done. For example you want an application to be shut down just before the backup, then started again just after the backup is complete. Kind of a legacy type request but let's just assume this is the requirement. In such a case we use this function of pre and post command. Pre and post commands are basically an option made available to you in NetWorker where you can run a script before a backup is initiated and also right after a backup is completed. Unlike the probe based backup the outcome of these scripts do not affect if a backup runs or not, the backup will always be triggered if it is configured in the schedule. There are a few prerequisites that have to be met in order for the ore and post commands to work as expected. The name of the scripts should start with save or nsr. The scripts should be placed in the same location of the NetWorker binaries. The name contains a maximum of 64 characters. For Windows, the script should be a .bat file. For Unix, the script must have execute file permission. We have already spoken about the order of execution, but let's go through it once again. When a backup action is initiated for a client machine which has per and post commands configured. NetWorker will mave the pre command launched on the client first, once the command completed the normal save operations runs. Once the save completes the post command is initiated.
