Day 10 | Camino Portuguese | Redondela to Pontevedra | March 27, 2024

Day 10 on the Camino Portuguese brought more rain and cold temps again. So much so, that we were soaked to the bone today. We took the complementary route (left) at the split in the markers (Rio Tomeza) which goes along the river and is much more pleasant. It adds 1 km, but it's wroth it! We stopped in Arcade for a hot coffee, to eat lunch and try to get warm. We met Claudia, who we became good friends with and who helped Ann Marie immensely for the rest of the Camino through her sickness. We also met a family with two young cousins who were walking the Camino in honor of their grandfather. As we started walking again, we just couldn't shake our cold and we stopped in a feed and hardware store in hopes to get help contacting a taxi. The owner and his friend were so incredibly kind and called a taxi for us. As we waited, they made us feel very welcome. Today, we only walked 4.6 miles (7.4 km) in 3 1/2 hours. We just couldn't push on with the rain, cold and with Ann Marie being sick. It's just not worth getting worse! You must listen to your body. When we got to Pontevedra, we had to wait for about an hour in a bar for the host of our apartment to show up. Several cups of tea and a martini later, she came by to get us. We checked into our place (Apartamentos Pedrira Casa Historica Downtown), dropped our bags and headed to the grocery store in search of gloves and food to cook for dinner.
