Spring has arrived early in Tennessee this year. It's been warm for a week now and the ten day forecast shows more of the same. The spring bulbs are up and the trees are beginning to bloom. And we already had our first spring migrant at the bird pond! A Blue-headed Vireo stopped by for a quick dip on Friday, March 6th. The earliest I've seen one of these here before was March 23. It will be interesting to see if other birds follow. Now that the birds are singing again, I've been running the Merlin app in the morning to see who all is there. When so many of the birds are singing at once, it's difficult for me to pick out who's who. Merlin is a great tool, and if you aren't already using it, I encourage you to go now and download it onto your phone. It's provided by the Cornell Lab of Ornithology and it is completely free to download and use. Here's a link for more information on the app and where to get it: https://merlin.allaboutbirds.org/ The Phoebes are one bird that I can always identify (feee-beee!) and boy are they vocal right now! And they're back to doing the "splash and dash" thing at the bird pond. Funny birds. The last little bit of new for today is that this is our six year anniversary! Time sure does fly. I posted the first Sunday Morning Bird Show on March 8, 2020. Lots of Tufted Titmice, Carolina Chickadees, and White-breasted Nuthatches. The cast of characters has increased some over time, but those three will always get star billing Thanks for watching! Stay safe out there and I'll see you next week
