Ultrasound Video showing Hemoperitoneum with fluid in Morison's pouch or Hepatorenal recess.

This video shows Hemoperitoneum with fluid in Morison's pouch also called Hepatorenal recess. Hemoperitoneum (also haemoperitoneum, sometimes also hematoperitoneum) is the presence of blood in the peritoneal cavity. The blood accumulates in the space between the inner lining of the abdominal wall and the internal abdominal organs. Hemoperitoneum also called hematoperitoneum is the presence of blood in the peritoneal cavity. The blood accumulates in the space between the abdominal wall and the internal abdominal organs. Hemoperitoneum is generally classified as a surgical emergency; in most cases, urgent laparotomy is required to identify and control the source of the bleeding. In some cases, careful observation may be permissible. The abdominal cavity is distensible and can easily hold greater than five liters of blood. Therefore, large-scale or rapid blood loss into the abdomen will definitely induce hemorrhagic shock and, if untreated, may rapidly result in serious consequences. Morison's pouch is a potential space that can open up when fluid or blood enters the area. When these aren't present, there's no space between your liver and right kidney. As a result, doctors use the presence of Morison's pouch on an ultrasound to help diagnose conditions that cause fluid buildup in your abdomen. The hepatorenal recess is the space that separates the liver from the right kidney. As a potential space, the recess is not filled with fluid under normal conditions. This fluid may be seen on ultrasound or computed tomography (CT scan). The hepatorenal recess is also called the pouch of Morison, or Morison's pouch The use of ultrasound is an important component of in-hospital point-of-care (POC) examination for pediatric and adult patients suffering from a traumatic injury with the potential for intra-abdominal or intrathoracic hemorrhage. POC ultrasonography can rapidly identify life-threatening injuries that require immediate intervention and has greater sensitivity and specificity for detecting pneumothorax when compared to supine chest radiography. Vehicle crashes and falls are the most frequent causes of blunt trauma, which is often a diagnostic challenge. Patients with severe injuries and persistent bleeding require immediate diagnosis and treatment Patients with less severe trauma or no apparent injury on initial examination may nevertheless have severe intra-abdominal injuries, and delayed diagnosis of these injuries is a major cause of preventable morbidity and mortality.
