This is a basic footwork drill for HEMA beginners. It shows it first with saber, then with longsword. If you try to walk into core distance without doing something first, chances are you'll get hit on the way in. So you take a small step forwards and do a hand snipe to keep them busy, then take a large step forwards and attack their core. Do this as two actions, attacking while stepping, then attacking while stepping again, and with no pause in between. It's ok to go very slowly, but don't get in the habit of pausing. Your feet need to move four times: front foot, back foot - front foot, back foot. After each advance you're back in your martial stance. Whatever side you did a hand snipe on, you have to attack somewhere else. So if you attack their hand from the right, you can go over their blade to the head, attack their shoulder on the left, drop and attack their thigh on the right, or attack their thigh on the left. You cannot hand snipe on the right, then attack their shoulder on right, because that's where their blade will be. Make sure that you keep your arm as far out as possible when you attack - do not T-Rex attack with your elbow bent. You want to maximize your reach.
