It is with profound sorrow we announce the passing of Mr. Henry Coleman, 63, of Florence who transitioned on Friday, January 2, 2026. Henry Louis Coleman, age 63, of Florence, SC, passed away peacefully on January 2, 2026. A man of profound resilience and boundless generosity. Henry lived a life dedicated to service, family, and the belief that no one is truly a stranger. Born on August 20, 1962, in Quincy, Florida, Henry’s journey was marked by strength from the very beginning. After the tragic loss of his parents at the age of 7, he moved to Miami to be raised by his aunt alongside his siblings. These early experiences forged in him a deep appreciation for the bonds of family—a value that would become the cornerstone of his life. At the age of 18, Henry answered the call to duty and enlisted in the United States Army. This began a distinguished 26-year career that saw him travel the world in defense of his country. Rising through the ranks with discipline and integrity, he retired as a Master Sergeant (MSG). To Henry, the Army was more than a profession; it was a brotherhood. Henry’s true mission was building community. He gathered lifelong friends in every corner of the globe and considered his fellow service members family. After retiring from the Army, Henry began a new chapter in the civilian workforce, spending a decade with Schneider Electric in Columbia, SC. His infectious spirit, steady presence, and remarkable work ethic touched the lives of colleagues and customers alike. He was an icon in his community, known for his high-spirited personality and a heart that knew no limits. Henry saw the intrinsic value in every person, regardless of their background. His generosity was legendary, frequently referred to as the dollar man - all children he met were the recipient of every dollar in his pocket. Every stranger was greeted with a warmth that made them feel like kin. Above all, Henry was a devoted father. Despite the distances that military life and adulthood often created, he made it his life’s priority to keep his children connected. He ensured that even from across the country, his children knew they were deeply loved and part of an unbreakable unit. Henry’s legacy of hard work, commitment, and a lifelong pursuit of being a good person lives on through his wife, Sondra Coleman, and his children: Henry L. Coleman Jr., Olivia L. Rutherford, Rodney A. (Amanda) Coleman, Robert A. Coleman, and Arianna A. Coleman. He also leaves behind nine cherished grandchildren—Jalicea, Sade, Arii, Henrii, Zion, Kellen, Cypress, Jaxon, and Addilyn. Along with numerous siblings, in-laws, nieces, nephews, and adopted grandchildren. He is also lovingly remembered by friends and neighbors who became family. Henry Louis Coleman taught us that you never stop learning how to be a better person and that a lasting impact is made through love and consistency. He will be deeply missed, but his light remains in the many lives he changed.
