K-국악이 세계로 영동세계국악엑스포 개막 Good afternoon Soa, Bella! Hyobeen, looks like you are at a very exciting place today Tell us where you are! I'm standing in one of the most exciting places where people are enjoying the rhythm of sounds. I’m coming to you from Yeongdong-gun County, Chungcheongbuk-do Province, where the Yeongdong World Traditional Music and Arts Expo is underway. It’s also known as the "Yeongdong World Gugak Expo", with gugak meaning traditional Korean music. Yeongdong is famous as the hometown of Park Yeon, who systematized Korea’s court music, so it has deep roots in traditional sounds. Here you can enjoy a wide variety of performances, everything from classic instruments to dynamic shows. One highlight is Pungmulnori, a traditional mix of drumming, dance, and parade featuring traditional Korean instruments. There’s also Beona Nori, similar to a plate-spinning show that’s part of the UNESCO-listed intangible cultural heritage Namsadang Nori. Alongside these traditional acts, there’s also fusion gugak that combines Korean heritage with modern music, with more than 200 performances and busking sessions in total. Since this is Korea’s very first national traditional-music fair, people have flocked here from all across the country. Take a listen to what some visitors had to say. "There are 33 of us here today for the Expo. It’s bigger than I expected, and even at the entrance, we were saying how well it’s set up. We’ll look around some more, I’ve always loved traditional Korean music." "I really loved it. The atmosphere was so lively, and I'll definitely come back if they hold it again." The energy looks amazing! Since it’s a "World" Traditional Music Expo, I’m guessing there are artists from other countries as well? Exactly. The expo isn’t just about Korean sounds. Even the slogan of this year’s expo is "The Fragrance of Gugak, Coloring the World". Musicians from 30 countries, including China, Russia, and the Czech Republic, are sharing their instruments and performances, creating a true cross-cultural stage. The organizing committee says it hopes this exchange will broaden appreciation for world traditions and help gugak reach a wider, global audience. Take a listen to what the executive chairman had to say. "The Expo is not only Korea’s first, but also the first of its kind worldwide. Here, you can experience the past, present, and future of Korean traditional music, and enjoy outstanding dance and music from 30 invited countries all in one place." That’s fantastic! How long will the expo run? The event runs until October 11th. If you’re interested in traditional music, this is the perfect place to be. That's all I have for now, back to you Soa. Thank you Hyobeen for that wonderful coverage.
