Recently, Pakistan and Saudi Arabia signed an agreement that has sent ripples across South Asia and the Middle East. The pact clearly states—if one of them is attacked, it will be considered an attack on both. In other words, this ‘Mutual Defence Agreement’ now makes the two countries security partners for each other. But the bigger question is—does this agreement remain only between Pakistan and Saudi Arabia, or will its impact also reach India? After all, Saudi Arabia is one of India’s biggest trade partners and energy suppliers, while Pakistan has always been our traditional adversary. So when these two draw a new defense line together, where does that leave India’s strategic position? Will this pact give Pakistan a new source of strength, or will it remain just a symbolic declaration on paper? And India having always relied on bilateral arrangements does it now need to rethink its entire West Asia game plan? These are the questions we’ll dive deep into today… to understand when such defense pacts have actually worked in history, when they’ve failed, and what they really mean for India today.
