This DIY tutorial is perfect for anyone looking to save money and learn more about car brakes and car maintenance. Changing car brakes, specifically the rear rotors and brake pads, is a crucial part of car repair and maintenance. Tools needed to remove the wheels, brake discs and brake caliper: 7mm hex (Allen) socket for caliper slide pins 6mm hex (Allen) socket to take off screw holding disc on 16mm socket to remove the brake bracket 17mm socket to remove the lug nuts Flathead screwdriver to help remove the caliper and the rattle clip Wire brush for cleaning parts Brake cleaner & copper grease Lump hammer / rubber mallet to hit the brake rotor off if stuck Guide to remove rear brake pads + discs: Remove wheel by removing lug nuts (17mm socket) Remove metal rattle clip on brake pad (flathead screwdriver) Remove 2x dust caps on brake caliper Remove 2x caliper sliding pins (7mm hex) Lift caliper off the disc and store it safe, do not let it hang by the brake line cable Remove the old brake pads, 1x is in piston of the caliper Rewind caliper piston back to make room for the new pads (you can do this by hand) Remove the brake bracket (16mm socket/spanner) Clean brake bracket from all brake dust build up (wire brush) Remove screw holding disc on (6mm hex) Before removing the disc, you need to release the handbrake so it does not stop the brake rotor from coming off, Ensure you chock your wheels so the car doesn't roll away. Remove disc, might need to hit with hammer Spray brake cleaner over the brake shoes once the disc is off.
