The throw from VW was around 5-5.5 inches, where the new throw is around 4 inches, which is about a 30% shorter of a throw. With a short shifter like this, we will be able to see a few different benefits. A shorter throw means you will have your hands on the steering wheel less, which means better car control. A shorter throw will give you a better driving experience as the transmission will feel more robust and precise.
