On 10 December 2024, the first Genomics Procurement and Supply Chain Management Community of Practice (PSCM CoP) ECHO session focused on introducing the CoP's structure, objectives, priorities, and initial roadmap. The Genomics PSCM CoP, launched during the ASLM Diagnostic Convention in Abidjan Cote d’Ivoire in November 2024, marks a pivotal step in addressing pathogen genomics procurement and supply chain challenges in Africa. These challenges include limited visibility on market forecasts, lengthy procurement and costly customs clearance processes, cold chain requirements, expensive and poorly designed service and maintenance agreements, insufficient in-country skills and capacity for PSCM, heavy dependence on imported consumables, and uncertainties over financing. The formation of the CoP is a strategic response, aimed at fostering collaboration and problem-solving among stakeholders to improve supply chain management. In this session, we introduced participants to the proposed structure, objectives, and priorities of the CoP, along with key interventions identified to address genomics-related PSCM challenges. The genomics PSCM CoP holds significant potential to transform genomics supply chains in Africa. Moderator: • Johnson Shonhe, Procurement Manager, ASLM Presenters: • Dr Talkmore Maruta, Director of Programs, ASLM • Sofonias Tessema, Program Lead - Pathogen Genomics, Africa CDC • Edwin Shumba, Portfolio Lead, ASLM • Sarah Mwangi, Implementation Science Expert for Pathogen Genomics, Africa CDC
