Адзін з нешматлікіх музычных інструментаў, на якім граюць спрадвеку практычна ва ўсім свеце, а форма і функцыі дуды цягам тысячагадовага развіцця, па сутнасці, не змяніліся. У Еўропе дуда згадваецца у I-II стст., у Беларусі – у XV–XVI стст. Паводле археалагічных раскопак у Верхнім замку ў Віцебску і меркаванню Л. Калядзінскага, дуда на нашых тэрыторыях з’явілася на мяжы XIII–XIV cтст. Для вырабу меха выкарыстоўваюць скуру казы, цяляці, барсука. Для вырабу драўляных складнікаў выкарыстоўваюць клён, ясень, вярбу, грушу, чорны граб, бярозу. Дудáр трымае дуду пад пахай, сціскаючы левым локцем мех, паветра з якога прымушае вібраваць язычкі пішчыкаў у жалейцы і гуках, выклікаючы моцнае гучанне. Здаўна дуды гралі ў вайсковых і прыдворных ансамблях-“капэлях”, дуду можна было пачуць на ўрачыстых цырымоніях і ў сялянскім асяроддзі. Да сярэдзіны XX ст. дуда была распаўсюджана ў цэнтральнай і паўночнай Беларусі, суправаджала абрады, песні, танцы. Маця́нка – найдасканалейшая беларуская дуда, у якой ад трох да шасці гукаў (бурдонаў) і большы мех. Асаблівасці беларускай дуды: плагальны строй (з субквартай), закрытая аплікатура, бурдон. Дударская традыцыя ў Беларусі перарвалася ў сяр. ХХ ст. У канцы XX – пач. XXI ст. пачалося яе аднаўленне: наладжаны выраб інструментаў, праводзяцца фестываль Дударскі фэст і танцавальныя масавыя вечарыны ў клубах, вядзецца навучанне ігры на дудах у ВНУ, створаны Дударскі клуб. Duda (Bagpipes) A folk wind reed instrument. It is one of the few musical instruments that have been played almost all over the world since ancient times, and the form and functions of the bagpipes have not changed over the millennia of its development. In Europe the bagpipes were mentioned in the I-II century, in Belarus – in the XV-XVI centuries. According to the archaeological excavations in the upper castle in Viciebsk and the opinion of L. Kaliadzinski, the duda (bagpipes) appeared in our territory at the turn of the XIII-XIV centuries. Goat, calf, and badger skins are used to make fur. Maple, ash, willow, pear, black hornbeam, birch are used to produce wooden parts. The dudar (bagpipes musician) holds the duda under his arm squeezing the fur with his left elbow, causing the pegs of the squeak to vibrate in pipes and produce a powerful sound. The duda has traditionally been played in military and court ensembles. It is also commonly heard at solemn ceremonies and in peasant environments. Until the middle of the XX century, the duda was widespread in Central and Northern Belarus and accompanied rituals, songs, and dances. Macianka is a type of Belarusian duda (bagpipes) that typically has three to six drones and has a larger miech (bag). Belarusian duda typical features include a plagal system with a subquart, closed fingering, and a drone. The duda bagpipes tradition in Belarus was interrupted in the middle of the XX century. In the late XX and early XXI centuries, efforts were made to restore the duda tradition. This includes the establishment of instrument manufacturing, the Dudarski Fest festival, and dance parties in clubs.
