Listen to the album: https://worldcircuit.lnk.to/Ladilikan About God Shall Wipe All Tears Away: David Harrington, artistic director of the Kronos Quartet, had long wanted to record a version of God Shall Wipe All Tears Away recorded by the great American gospel singer, Mahalia Jackson. When he first heard Trio Da Kali’s Hawa Kasse Mady sing, Mahalia's song sprang into his thoughts. Hawa did not know of Mahalia Jackson nor had she ever heard any gospel music. The English lyrics were translated into Bambara, Mali’s main language; and the quartet divided the organ harmonies between the four string instruments, bowing in long sustained notes without vibrato, in order to emulate the sound of the organ. David wirtes: "The idea that this song could be sung in another language, by someone who has had such a different life and environment than Mahalia Jackson and yet is bound to her by the most amazing vocal sound is totally inspiring to me. There is something so deeply musical at work here. I hope that Hawa will like the song too.” She does, in fact it has become one of her favourite songs of all time.
